1st Day of Spatial Data Infrastructure of Federation Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Mostar on September 6, 2018. and gathered experts from the field of establishment and implementation of the INSPIRE directive in the EU and in the region, employees of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Property Legal Affairs and entities of the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) of the Federation of BiH. The SDI Day was opened by the Director of the Federal Administration for Geodetic and Property Legal Affairs and Chair of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Council of the Federation of BiH, Mr. Željko Obradović, highlighting the importance of cooperation between institutions and sharing spatial data. With presentation Erasmus + BESTSDI project – modernization and standardization of SDI teaching in the region, Prof. Željko Bačić, PhD, presented the BESTSDI project and the activities which are currently being carried out in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Program for the project partners establishment, emphasizing the need to adapt the existing formal and informal education of persons who will be active participants in the SDI.
Paper “Development of new learning materials for spatial data infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina (project BESTSDI)” by Mirza Ponjavić, Indira Sijerčić, Rejhana Dervišević, Kemal Gutić and Elvir Ferhatbegović is published in journal “Glasnik Rudarsko-geološko-građevinskog fakulteta”, No. 6, 2018.
On 23 April 2018 the Joint IMPULSE – BESTSDI workshop “SDI education for stakeholder’s benefit” was held at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka. It gathered many experts from different scientific fields in Banja Luka.
In the World Creativity and Innovation Week, April 15-21, 2018, the President of the Republic of Albania Ilir Meta visited the Faculty of Geology and Mining in Tirana. During his visit, he visited the GIS laboratory, equipped with Erasmus+ projects GEOWEB and BESTSDI, and talked with students and staff of the Faculty.
University of Defence, Serbia (UNID) organized the second Steering Committee, Project Management Committee and Quality Assurance Committee meetings, first Special Mobility Strand meeting and Inter-project coaching meeting in Belgrade, March 07-08, 2018).
At the Inter-project coaching meeting, Emina Drežnjak Hadžić (University of Sarajevo) presented the BESTSDI Project Objectives, Expected Results and current activities.
It is our intention to disseminate project information and communicate results with a broad audience. To achieve this, we are launching e-Newsletter. It should deliver information about our activities, events, results and activities tied to the project undertaken by project partners.
We hope that BESTSDI Newsletter will encourage broader discussion about teaching SDI at the institu-tions of higher education, and therefore, we are also open to reader’s opinions and discussion.
Summer school for the project “Western Balkans Academic Education Evolution and Professional’s Sustainable Training for Spatial Data Infrastructures – BESTSDI” will take place in Split, Croatia on July 3-7. We are honored to invite you to participate at this summer school, which will take place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, University of Split.
Agency for Real Estate Cadastre (AREC) of the Republic of North Macedonia hosted BESTSDI workshop in Skopje on March 28, 2017. AREC is an associated partner of BESTSDI project and its role is to provide expert opinions for defining the spatial data infrastructure (SDI) curriculum, its evaluation and to support the promotion of the SDI curricula.
The Agency for Real Estate Cadastre is responsible for establishing, maintaining and providing public access to the NSDI Geoportal. Participation of AREC in the BESTSDI project is very important for sharing its experiences as SDI authority in the public sector.
AREC director, Slavche Trpeski gave a warm welcome and emphasized AREC mission and dedication to support SDI development. Lidija Krstevska presented implemented and ongoing NSDI projects in AREC, Sonja Dimova presented development of the National spatial data infrastructure in North Macedonia and Tatjana Arangelova presented National Geoportal of the Republic of North Macedonia. Igorche Karafilovski from Crisis Management Center demonstrated application of SDI for Macedonian Forest Fire Information System- MKFFIS.
3rd BESTSDI Workshop was organized by Faculty of Civil Engineering of Ss. Cyril and Methodius University whose project team is lead by Prof. Zlatko Srbinoski.
Project application „Western Balkans Academic Education Evolution and Professional’s Sustainable Training for Spatial Data Infrastructures“ – BESTSDI has been selected for funding in frame of ERASMUS+ KA2 Capacity Building in Higher Education call 2015. Project is worth 978.166,66 € and is one of 147 selected among 736 submitted applications.
Project applicant is Faculty of Geodesy at University of Zagreb and project partners are Catholic University Leuven (B), University of Split (HR), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Skopje (MK), Bochum University of Applied Sciences (D), Polytechnic University of Tirana (AL), Agricultural University of Tirana (AL), University of Banja Luka (BiH), University of Mostar (BiH), University of Sarajevo (BiH), University of Tuzla (BiH), University for Business and Technology Prishtina (XK), University of Montenegro (MN), University of Belgrade (RS), University of Novi Sad (RS) and University of Prizren „Ukshin Hoti“ (XK), as well as associated partners Federal Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs of FBIH (BiH), Republic Administration for Geodetic and Real Property Affairs of RS (BiH) i Real Estate Cadastre Agency of Republic of Macedonia (MK).
Objective of BESTSDI project is to improve the curricula at the partner universities by introducing the concepts of spatial data infrastructures (SDI) and e-government as well as extended concepts like smart cities, smart environment, digital single market, etc. based on SDI. The project courses will address two types of students, namely students having a specialisation on fundamental geospatial data management (for instance in geodesy, geoinformatics etc.) and students at other faculties utilizing the SDI concepts, for instance urban planners, environmental engineers and students in forestry, geography or agriculture.
Project duration is three years and project start is foreseen for October 15th 2016.
